About the Book

A river goddess, Ganschowehanne, teaches two children, a girl and a boy, about a river’s beauty throughout the seasons. Her messages often take the form of haikus. The Schuylkill River in Pennsylvania is the river that inspired this book, and several of the haikus refer to the history of this lovely river. After the story, the book includes a more detailed history of the Schuylkill along with some nature and art activities for children. Hopefully, Ganschowehanne and the book’s illustrations also inspire all of us to appreciate the magic and beauty of all rivers, wherever we are.
