About the Book
Janika is suppressing her pain but reluctantly shares it with a teacher. She shares her trials and thoughts that many young people may have a personal connection to. This story goes into her home and takes your heart to some very real lives of many children today. Janika is not aware of her situation of abuse and seems to have a very low self image of her gifts and abilities. Janika shares is a powerful tool for teachers to identify students with special needs. It’s a welcome back to school story that would trigger a dissonant note in the hearts of all students but mainly initiate and empower one with silent pain to reach out for help. This story was inspired by the many at risk students in Hawaii and very likely after reading this, you the reader would feel the heart of someone right next to you who might be dealing with daily struggles similar to Janika.
About the Author
About the Author Lila Parong has taught in Hawaii for the last 22 years. She and her awesome husband Maxi has a blending of eight children and 2 grand children. They hope to help children in Hilo now that they are newly licensed for foster care. Lila is a songwriter/ musician (album: Island Inspirations II), classical piano teacher and a Worship Leader at New Hope Christian Fellowship Hilo. She has a great love for the Keiki of Hawaii and through her teaching experiences felt it necessary for teachers to share a story like Janikas to encourage students to recognize and help those who seem to have a silent cry of pain. A note about the Illustrator~ A special Mahalo to you my young illustrator Meagan Kubojiri, a 14 year old student from Waiakea High School and her mother Jill, a middle school teacher and friend at Waiakea Intermediate school. Together, they brought a unique touch of visual enhancements to give this story a glorious makeover. What a privilege it was to work with you both on this special project. I love your artistic creation. Again, thank you.
