About the Book

The central character Guy-Remy, is the second son of a resourceful 13th century French baron, with scandalous ancestors. Guy is captured in an attack by heretical religious zealots. He escapes to join a band of Swiss climbers who build and repair tall structures. They are hired by Venetians to help destroy Constantinople's defenses in the Fourth Crusade—succeeding, but losing most of their members. Their pay included a valuable relic whose authenticity is frequently challenged. Based finally in Reims, Guy finds unique ways to promote safe, efficient and speedy building of great Gothic cathedrals.

About the Author

With the writing of Pilgrim, Gordon Wagner completes a full circle of experience, starting with youthful interest in history; to beginning college as an English major, then on to architecture for his Bachelor’s Degree and to a Master’s Degree in City and Regional Planning. He prepared community plans for four Midwest cities and for the region surrounding the Spaceport at Cape Canaveral, FL. He completes the circle by returning to history -- the medieval period in France that saw the building of Europe’s most distinctive architecture, High Gothic Cathedrals. It was also however, the time of some low points in western history, the Crusades.
