About the Book

The purpose of this book is to provide patients or caregivers a navigational guide during treatment. What to ask, what to expect: How can I prepare a comfortable place at home? Will I be sick? Can I travel?

Patients prefer to be as independent as possible in order to retain their self respect and self-image. There are different kinds of radiation available. Where is your treatment area? As of today, how many radiation treatments have I had? How many cycles of chemotherapy? Why does it make a difference? What kind of cancer do you have? Who is your oncologist? How serious is a fever during chemotherapy? Should your spouse get a flu shot? Although the amount of information can seem overwhelming, what you need, step-by-step, can be organized and streamlined into a manageable to-do list. The book provides schedules and templates to assist you when speaking with your physicians: Show me where my tumor is located. Show me where you are placing a central line. Let me show you where my pain is coming from. Utilize this book to coach yourself.

About the Author

My name is Lucy Hall. I have worked in pharmacy for nearly fifteen years and in oncology for over ten years. At Fountain Valley Cancer Center Pharmacy, we interact directly with patients, physicians, and caregivers to provide a knowledgeable, experienced safety net: What to expect. What to ask. How to prevent problems common with a suppressed immune system. Remaining as independent as possible for as long as possible. I believe my degree in botany gives me a unique perspective of the herb and supplement aisle. Take this book with you to the doctor’s office, radiation, infusion, pharmacy, and grocery store. Feel better!
