About the Book

Mountain Home is a play incorporating a series of poems in the voices of one family’s members. Beginning with the influenza epidemic of 1918, we are with the Shiflett family as they endure hardship and experience the joy of living on a mountain in Virginia’s Blue Ridge. Finally, in 1936 we see them leave their home as they are relocated for the creation of Shenandoah National Park and Skyline Drive. Cordelia, the mother and main character, holds them together through all of their trials. This book includes the entire play and the poems in a separate section.
