About the Book

Full of beautiful colors, bright, brilliant, and unique—for they represent a small beautiful baby girl. The Colors Within tells the story of a little girl badly hurt by severe childhood abuse and illustrates how it stunted and scarred the woman she became. Share the inspiring journey of Good Maker, the Grownup Woman and the Grownup Man as they set out to restore the little girl’s spirit and reclaim her childhood gifts. Celebrate their triumph when she re-connects with her precious human spirit and recovers the “colors” that she believed were lost forever.

The Colors Within vividly illustrates the profound and lasting impact that early childhood abuse can have on the developing child. It also demonstrates the remarkable potential for an abused child to transcend early experience and to reclaim a sense of self and hope for the future. Kimberly King, Executive Director, Lawyers for Children America
[Abuse] survivors young or old will readily be comforted by the use of visual imagery and colors to address the emotions encountered in this book. The inclusion of the Good Maker, also helps address the inner conflicts these victims face by allowing them to gain strength from within. The Colors Within is empowering and freeing as it allows one to express their emotions in a safe way. And for those who have never experienced abuse, it is an eye-opening account of the fear and anguish an abuse victim faces which should prompt each of us to listen, to care, to respond and to act.
— Kimberly King, Executive Director, Lawyers for Children America
