About the Book
Six young girls who call themselves the S’mores Sisters are having fun at a slumber party when one of the braver ones suggests they climb down from the balcony to sit outside on the lawn and play games. After much discussion about breaking the rules the girls ignore the possible consequences and end up in the front yard. Later they discover they can’t get back in by climbing up the tall balcony. Because they are afraid of being punished for disobeying the girls quietly begin walking down a dark street looking for a tall ladder to help them climb back inside the house. When caught by two ruthless and smelly characters, they are tied up and held captive in the dark basement of an old rundown house, scared out of their minds. Later the girls find themselves in the Land of Angels where they indeed wonder if they are still alive. They meet the powerful angel, Gabriel,as well as Lucinda and Mathias, guardian angels whose kindness saves them from disaster. They meet the little cherubs that fly around and entertain the children. Sammie, the silliest cherub of all, falls for little Natalie and won’t leave her side. Many strange things happen while there. The showers are waterfalls, the exotic animals are all tame. The angels plan very special events for the children while they await the challenges that will let them know if they are able to return home. The S’mores Sisters make many friends while in this wondrous place, but, are saddened when some of their friends fail their challenges and have to leave unexpectantly. All the children are fond of an old man named Howard who at first exasperates them for being so slow. They even name a large turtle after him. Then later they wonder if he is indeed, God. There are twelve challenges to meet that consist of decisions we all make every day. How many of the children will return to the safety of their homes and families? What hard lessons do they have to learn to realize why they are even there?
