About the Author

Pulled along by a childhood dream of “seeing the world,” as it was put in those days, the author experienced a world he never dreamed possible. It was a world of the sudden silences, the guarded sotto voce, the powerfully suppressed laughter combined with a cosmic silence. In such a world, intensified upon his release from the military in 1946, he trudged wide eyed and wondering, “Who?” “Why?” Even to this day he cannot be sure he has the answers but he has little doubt that most readers will have them.
