Looking Aft is a nostalgic look at life in the 50’s aboard a Submarine Tender during the Korean War. Covering the life of the author as he enters the military as a fresh youngster just out of school to maturity as a seasoned seaman including snippets of life aboard ship at sea and in port. Hazards of war and how it affected those not in a combat situation.
About the Author
Charles Lux retired after fi fty plus years as a chemist/scientist working with materials ranging from drinking water to rocket fuel, and from fl ea soap to enriched nuclear material. One of the many highlights of his career was working with school children during the many Science Demos he presented at local schools. He was elected in March of 1995 to the prestigious New York Academy of Sciences. Born in Topeka, Kansas in 1933, he was raised in Kansas City, Missouri the youngest of four children, with a younger sister added to the family later by adoption. He left for the Navy in 1951, then in 1955, true to the saying that you can’t go home again, he settled in Lawrence, Kansas while pursuing his Chemistry degree at the University of Kansas. He married during his academic years to the daughter of his former Boy Scout leader. On completion of his degree, he moved his family to Ohio for an opportunity in Chemical Research. His young wife passed away at the age of 31 leaving him to raise their three children alone. After seven years he met and married his present wife, Brenda, who brought a daughter to complete the family. Their children all graduated with honors from high school, one a valedictorian of her class. All four completed college, two graduating there with honors one a Magna Cum Laude, and all are holding responsible positions in Education, Politics, Medical and Industrial fi elds. Three more books are in the works, and should follow soon.
