About the Book

Suddenly, they were out of the forest. The light was coming from floodlights hanging from a huge barn. Praying that they could get the door open, they stumbled thru the drifting snow. There was a small entrance door. It opened right away and Tessa and Cassidy went inside not knowing what they were going to find.

“Over here” nickered a deep quiet Horse voice. “Sage, is that you?” asked the same deep quiet voice.

“Who’s there?” asked Cassidy.

“Me. My name is Stormy. You’re not our Momma Sage. What is your name?” asked the deep Horse voice coming from deep inside the barn.

“My name is Cassidy. My mummy’s name is Tessa. We’re lost in the snowstorm. The car is in a snowbank and we had nowhere to go. We followed the light here.”

“It’s a good thing you found the barn. This is a wonderful place” rumbled another deeper nickering voice. “Can I see who you are? Can you come over here?”

“Sure” said Cassidy. She walked down to where she heard the voices. There were two stalls and inside were two of the most beautiful white horses she’d ever seen. They both had soft, dark, gentle eyes. Cassidy’s mouth formed a big, huge “O” as she looked at both horses. Her beautiful brown eyes changed from curiosity to joy as she realized she knew these horses – they were her friends when she closed her eyes to sleep at night.

“You are the horses in my dreams. I’ve seen you in my dreams almost every night for the longest time. But I haven’t been able to hear what you want to tell me. You are so beautiful. What are your names? How come you can talk to us?” Cassidy had so many questions. You see, she loved horses so much and wanted to learn to take care of them.

“My name is Windy and you’ve already met Stormy. See, when we meet people who love horses, then we can talk with them. Your Mummy heard our voices telling her to walk through the forest and come here so you could be rescued. We already know that you and your Mummy are very nice people. Are you cold? ” asked Windy.

Tessa’s teeth chattered as she slowly felt the warmth in the barn come into her. She slowly relaxed knowing they would be safe for the night.

“I’m getting warmer. How about you, Cassidy?” she asked.

“Mummy, I’m fine. I want to talk with Windy and Stormy. Mummy, these are the horses I dream about. There is a lot they want to tell us” said Cassidy. Her voice was getting happier and happier.

Tessa realized that the horses were talking to both of them. “They think we’re nice”, she thought quietly to herself. “I never knew that horses could be so caring. I never knew why they know how nice a person is. Cassidy is so happy. I never knew they could like us enough to talk to us – and help us be safe in this storm.” Her eyes filled with tears as she learned about the trusting hearts of horses.

Tessa looked further down the row of stables for Cassidy. She saw two white horses looking out of their stalls and they were looking straight at Cassidy. Looking at her face, Tessa knew that the horses were going to be asked a lot of questions. She also knew those questions would be answered with patience and love.

“Do you want to sit on my shoulders so you can look in their eyes?” asked Tessa.

“Oh, Mummy, could I? I want to talk to them so much and they are so nice. They want to help us. I can feel it.” Cassidy spoke with the assurance of an old soul who knows that everything is going to be all right. She was with friends.

Tessa took off her coat and took off Cassidy’s snowsuit. She hoisted Cassidy on her shoulders and took her over to the stalls. The horses were so big. At first they were scared because both horses were SO HUGE! But they realized that the horses had just as many answers for them.

Cassidy held out her hand for Stormy to sniff. It is always good manners to let a horse learn a human’s scent. I
