About the Book

Paul grew up during the Depression. As a young man, he worked as a farmhand and discovered that despite the hard work, he loved his job and vowed to save everything he earned so that some day he could own and run a farm of his own. When his dream was finally realized, he met his future wife, Lisa, and together they built a wonderful life. Although they desperately wanted to have children, Lisa’s one, difficult pregnancy ended in heartbreak. They spent all of their time with each other, building a home on a farm they loved. The farm was threatened many times by elements of nature, from drought to downpours, and old, outdated farm equipment made their work so much harder. Their biggest obstacle, however, was the new banker, Paul’s cousin Ezra, and his threat to call in all of Paul’s bank loans and take the farm away from him for good. At their darkest moment, Paul and Lisa happen upon a little girl in an orphanage. They were told only that she was left on the doorstep with a note: “Her name is Ann Dey. Please don’t ever change it.” Paul and Lisa adopted Ann, and their bad luck changed to good. Paul always told Ann, “You’re my Lucky Charm,” but over the years, the impact Ann had on his life was more than he imagined - and all those who were close to Ann also found that she had the ability to bring about changes to their lives as well, sometimes in strange, mysterious ways.

About the Author

Sabatino (Sam) Capone was born in 1919, one of 12 children. Sam grew up in New Jersey during the Depression. He met the love of his life, Bette, and they married on October 26, 1941. After the attack on Pearl Harbor later that year, Sam joined the Marines. When he returned to civilian life, Sam and Bette raised two sons. After retiring, he enjoyed playing golf, and simply by hitting an errant golf shot on the course one day, Sam was inspired to write Ann Dey. Now, at 88 years old, Sam has put his work into publication.
