About the Author

Cheryl Alpert has a long affinity for several areas of art including the Ash Can School, alternative art of the early 20th century, and folk art. Her college dissertation entitled, “Art Persistently Reflects The Society In Which It Operates” relates directly to the key themes of this volume. She has worked as an advertising and marketing executive and currently resides in the Boston area. Claire Savitt lives in Miami. Maintaining a long interest in art and antiques, she formerly was the proprietor of a folk art gallery. She currently has a position as a set decorator for a local theater group in the Miami area. Joel Neuschatz is a physician. His artistic interests include 19th century American art as well as contemporary American art and photography including outsider art. He maintains collections in several areas of Americana including antique toys and advertising tins. He lives in Boston.
