About the Book

Don Ball was born in Pennsylvania to parents of modest means during the “Roaring Twenties”. His parents lost everything during the “Great Depression” of the 1930,s through no fault of their own, as did many thousands of others. He didn’t suffer much living through those times, as he didn’t know any better. You will find much humor served up within, along with some pathos, some gripping excitement, and much nostalgia of the Depression and the Big Band Era as well. The author served with distinction in the U. S. Army Air Corps during World War II in the 1940,s and he comments with candor on the signs of the times, from the 1930’s through the turn of the century. His graphic account of nearly ditching in the North Atlantic will surely grip you. His comments on World War II and his participation therein are of special interest to World War II buffs, while his observations of life in Great Britain during the war will bring back memories to those who served in the United Kingdom. His brief brushes with many famous people of his day are related here as they may be of some interest to others. While the style of some his anecdotes may remind some of the writings of O. Henry, they were all true and are hereby reported as such.
