About the Book

About the Author

The Reverend Dr. Butler McKinnon Jr. was born on September 14, 1946 to Butler McKinnon Sr. and Magnolia Hines McKinnon in Edgecombe County, North Carolina. He was raised on a farm by his grandfather, uncles, and aunts who have played a significant part of his life and who shaped him to be the person that he was. While serving in the Viet Nam war in 1968, Butler received multiple injuries and subsequently suffered the loss of both legs above the knee. Despite these injuries, Butler lived a very productive and passionate life. His love for his family, friends, and all people was so amazing. He had such a loving and forgiving spirit that even when others hurt him and tried to destroy him, he always would say "I have to love and forgive them, that's the way God want it". In 1972 Butler gave his life to the Lord and shortly after was called to the ministry. In 1980 he was called to his first Pastorate in which he maintained this role at various Churches for twenty six years. He also obtained various College Degrees and maintained various jobs. He never looked at his physical disability as a handicap but looked at it as an opportunity to be an inspiration to others and maybe to help someone along the way. Rev. McKinnon wanted to share his life story with others, therefore he began to recapture his lifetime memories and began to write about them a few years before his death. Prior to his death, his health drastically begin to decline. Despite the pain and the obstacles that he faced, he never complained. He once stated that if the Lord doesn't heal him, I still know he's able. Rev. Dr. Butler McKinnon Jr. was called home to Glory on December 9, 2008, Gracefully the Lord allowed him to complete the writing of his life story to be shared in this book. Rest in peace Honey, I Love you and miss you, Your Sweetheart Donna.
