About the Book

Growing up as an enemy of the Third Reich I was not aware of the impact it would have on my world. This is the story of the life of a young girl transported from a peaceful background surrounded by loving parents into the horror of the destruction of all she knows. She fights back to normalcy and adulthood drawn from situation to situation, some stormy, into a new life.

About the Author

I was born in Berlin Germany and in 1945 was smuggled by a Red Cross convoy through the Russian lines into the West and the Netherlands, the country of my nationality. My accent is still giving me away. I am asked about my life and when I just hint at where and how I had I lived I am being encouraged to put my experiences on paper. Since 1978 I have lived in Chestertown on the Eastern Shore of Maryland. A recent WCALL writing course at Washington College provided a basis and I started to write. The photos my mother took are treasured mementoes. I have used them liberally throughout the text.
