About the Book

Reaching Out to Others introduces the reader to diverse volunteer settings where an individual can make a difference in the lives of others and the community. Incorporated into descriptions are true stories of humorous and touching memories the writer encountered along the way. Readers are encouraged to use their talents and interests to bring joy to the lonely, preservation of the environment, and assistance with projects in their local community.

About the Author

Agnes Bierbaum received her MA in Speech Pathology from the University of Missouri in 1965. She worked as a speech pathologist in the public schools and as a supervisor of student clinicians. After retiring in 1989, she continued to work part-time and also became actively involved in volunteering. An interest in music led her to settings where she could use her violin to bring enjoyment and entertainment to young and old. She and her husband presented dulcimer programs in nursing homes, state parks, and nature centers. They taught line dancing at retirement villages, church functions, and elder day care centers. Volunteering became an integral part of their lifestyle in retirement.
