About the Book
“Southern Legacy” provides the reader with a look at the common man who fought in the Confederate army for four long years. The book explores some of the reasons at least from the viewpoint of the southern soldier. The author also liberally sprinkles family anecdotes about actual wartime occurrences at the southern home front.
About the Author
H.G. Manning was born at a time when the country was just preparing for the centennial celebration of the ‘Civil War’. Perhaps it was these events that piqued his interesting in the period for as long as he can remember he has always studied the battles of the war. However, over time he became more interested in the reason(s) the South decided that secession was the best remedy for their grievances against the Union. Upon retiring from the United States army he devoted more effort in the study of the antebellum politics culminating in writing “Unwavering Duty”.
