About the Book

This story is about friendship, school, sports and growing up. Watching my children, Laurel and Jesse, play their sports, watching my students in various activities over the years, and watching the interactions that children have with each other at home and away have helped me create these humorous chapters. They depict the ups and downs of life through the eyes of the two major characters, Mantooth and Chuck. Two boys’ experiences during their fifth grade school year show their character and ability to have fun and also to learn from their mistakes. Enjoy and reflect on your childhood. This story could have been about you.

About the Author

Jeff Parrish grew up in the Bay Area, attended the University of California, Berkeley, and graduated from that institution in 1966. He was drafted into the U.S. Army in 1967 and spent a year in Viet Nam. He received a California State Teaching Credential, K-12 in 1971. He followed his passion for teaching over the next 36 years, working in 3 Elementary schools, 16 years in grades 4-6, and Foothill Middle School, where he taught Science for the next 20 years, retiring in 2005. This book was written in 1984 and 1985, and this book contains chapters directly related to the adventures of his children, Laurel and Jesse, and from his personal experiences during his teaching career. Jeff and his wife, Mary Ann, have 7 grandchildren, with the first great grandchild on the way. Jeff’s hope is that this book will inspire others to reflect on their pasts and put those reflections into writing, so others can share them.
