About the Book

Editorial Reviews

“Too many students and younger teachers know little about bammie making, the Spanish wall houses, the thatched roofs and the making of the lime kiln that are described in this book. It should therefore be welcomed by Social Studies teachers in high schools and in the upper grades of primary schools as a reference book or as a supplementary text. No other book gives so detailed a description of Jamaican peasantry at that time in southern St Elizabeth – none written, anyway, employing this unique story-telling method."

– Jean Goulbourne, Reviewer and Author

“Bankay weaves a beautiful tapestry of bits of rural Jamaica's social history and culture, intrigue, humour, colour and life. A fascinating read!”

– Paulette Ramsay, Author of Aunt Jen
