About the Book
“It’s a compelling, gleeful premise, and Porter has created a good over-arching plot, which hops from one continent to another with a kind of delighted ease. However, it is the characters that really make the novel. They’re wellobserved, clearly differentiated and great company… One wonders how many of them are drawn from his own experience… Porter is a really good writer.”
About the Author
In the Shade of the Mango Tree is a globe-trotting crime novel centering on the adventures of Lake Schmidt, a retired communications professor, Daniel Quinton, a retired Navy commander, and their attempts to make money and defeat bad guys by taking on ELF Aquitaine, an oil company with designs on political power in Congo-Brazzaville. Joining them in a seemingly uncomplicated and straightforward expedition are a young Lebanese expatriate and a diverse band of journalists and businessmen who, like Schmidt and Quinton, are seeking a return to their glory days.
