About the Book

Many books have been written which show the step by step processes involved with the popular hobby, home winemaking.  Most of them just tell you to do this step and then the next step without actually explaining what is really going on in each process.  If one seeks the detailed biological and chemical processes involved then wine chemistry texts are available but perhaps most are hard to understand to the nonscientist.  My quest in this book has been to show the reader the step by step processes involved with consistently producing clear, brilliant, fine tasting homemade wines.  In order to do this I have added the simplified chemistry involved so that the home winemaker actually can understand what is going on as the grapes turn into wine.  I truly believe that a bit of basic chemistry will aid the reader in understanding and appreciating this rather remarkable change!  I have also added in the last chapter some solutions to curing the problems which are sometimes bound to develop no matter how careful and sanitary we are in our quest for that perfect product.  I hope the reader will find my simplified chemistry logic to allow them to better understand the principles involved in home winemaking and to most of all make sound wines year after year.
