About the Book

A young man of promise is cut down in his prime. He enters the Army before WW II begins and dies in a POW camp in Japan. His father applies for the War Risk Life Insurance benefits and is told he doesn’t qualify. In honor of his dead son, he pursues the insurance claim and prevails after ten years of red tape and the involvement of senators, congressmen and even President Truman. This true story will give you an understanding of what average citizens went through before, during and after WW II.

About the Author

The author is a graduate of the Fairfield public school system. He also holds Bachelor and Master degrees from San Jose State College. In addition, he has done graduate work at U. C. Davis, U. C. Berkeley, Sacramento State, San Francisco State, and Harvard University. Mr. Sheldon has served Grace Church as Choirmaster, Vestryman, Junior Warden, Senior Warden and twice on the search committee for a new rector. He wrote the first edition of "THE HISTORY OF GRACE EPISCOPAL CHURCH" in 1992 for the 125th anniversary of the founding of the church and has compiled the second edition to commemorate Fr. James Hargis' first service as the new Rector.
