About the Book

Material Things is the story of three friends living in New York City, with set goals in life who think they have everything all figured out. These girls think that if you work hard, you achieve your goals, plain and simple. Unfortunately all three girls discover that a little thing called life sometimes life gets in the way. Candice is a business woman rising very quickly up the corporate ladder. She yearns to make it big in banking, more than anything. Suddenly, she is working on the biggest deal of her career. At the same time she meets Nate, who she thinks may be the one guy she wants to spend the rest of her life with. But there’s one hitch: Nate is also working on the business deal, for the opposition. He could ultimately ruin all the progress she’s made in her career thus far, or make her the happiest woman in the world. Candice is determined to close the deal and keep Nate in her life. She’s always gotten things her way in the past, but will she this time? Nikki is in her fourth year at medical school. Her life is going along smoothly until she starts seeing Terrell. Is he the right man for her? Nikki thinks he is. She has her heart set on being with him forever. What Nikki doesn’t count on is Terrell’s roommate Andre figuring into the equation. Nikki has always been one to do the right thing, but this time she’s in way over her head. Will she be able to salvage not only her career, but her piece of mind? Jazzy is an actress who’s been pounding the pavement for years in search of her big break into show business. Finally the opportunity she’s been waiting for her entire life presents itself. She lands a role in an off-Broadway play. Jazzy is thrilled that her career is moving forward, but does not count on falling in love with a member of the crew. Complicating matters even further is that the crew member is another woman. Jazzy is determined to keep career first and everything else second, but we all know what they say about the best laid plans. Candice, Nikki and Jazzy work through their problems the best way they know how, and try to be there for each other the best they can. Follow these three friends as they deal with career, love, and loss, along with life in the big city. If you want to read a story filled with drama, with a mix of comedy thrown in, about love, careers, and the power of friendship this is the book for you.
