About the Book

Prairie Winds is a collection of my memories of farming on the prairies of Saskatchewan and Minnesota. The essence of prairie life is a sense of belonging and a kinship with the land. Prairie life is best viewed in the people who struggle through hard work to form a cooperation and an abiding respect for the great powers of nature, especially the wind of the prairie. When I think of the earlier parts of my life I think of the wind on the lakes, clover, ripening wheat fields and miles of prairie. One can sense the magic of the northern plains in the awesome thunderstorms, in the silent, eerie dance of the northern lights, the tabletop flat prairie of yellow grass and brightly painted elevators with grain trains rushing their loads to market. This book reflects on how my family worked with the prairie in both farming and life. The book also touches on the changes of the last century in both farming and raising a family. I’ve tried to instill in my own children and grandchildren my love for the prairie. I have also volunteered for 4-H for over 50 years and continue to work to open the eyes of today’s youth to the beauty and wonders of the world around us.

About the Author

I am just a plain, ordinary, conservative person. This book is a reflection of my family, memories, and eighty-seven years of blessings and sorrows. In particular it is a collection of my memories from growing up on the Saskatchewan prairie.
