About the Author

Gyuri Hollósy, a Hungarian American sculptor and artist, was born Ervin György Hollósy in 1946 in Bad Aibling, a small village in the Bavaria region of Germany. His artistic roots can be found on both sides of his family. In 1955, his family moved to Cleveland, where he later studied at the Cleveland Institute of Art and then earned his BFA from Ohio University. Hollósy did five and a half years of military service in the US Coast Guard and thereafter resumed his fine arts studies at Tulane University, where he earned his MFA. His first teaching position at Tulane University was followed by faculty positions at Washington University, St. Louis, and Bethany College in Lindsborg, Kansas. In 1988, he moved to New Jersey, where he started as an instructor at the Johnson Atelier Technical Institute of Sculpture in Mercerville and later became assistant director of their academic program and gallery director. Currently, he is a resident artist at the Grounds for Sculpture in Hamilton, where he pursues his work in sculpture and painting. Hollósy’s work is featured in public and private collections in Europe and many parts of the United States and can be viewed on his website (www.hollosy.com).
