About the Book

The book includes a typical sermon of Emerson and also samples of other renowned and prolific preachers. But most of the sermons are his own, preached for the Orient congregation and offered here for the reader’s pleasure and, perhaps, spiritual edification.

About the Author

In retirement after a career in advertising and public relations writing, Geoff Proud attached himself to his local Methodist church in Orient NY as a lay preacher. He describes this experience in the book My Life as a Methodist. During his graduate education in theology and in American Studies, he was directed to research sermons of New England preachers, including Ralph Waldo Emerson. This background sustained his interest and inclination to the practice of preaching the Christian gospel.
