About the Book
Born in Kingston in 1987, the narrator begins life in a small, close-knit family that quickly fractures after the birth of her younger sister, Scarlett. Following her parents’ divorce, both mother and father form new relationships, introducing step-parents and siblings into an already shifting family dynamic. What begins as an attempt to rebuild stability soon gives way to a childhood marked by instability, fear, and emotional upheaval. Amid the chaos, she finds solace in music, particularly through the Backstreet Boys and later Aaron Carter, whose presence offers an emotional escape and a sense of control during her formative years. These small refuges of joy contrast sharply with the instability surrounding her, highlighting her resilience as she navigates a childhood defined by trauma, loss, and the ongoing search for safety and belonging. Together, these chapters establish a powerful and emotional foundation for her story – one shaped by violence and survival, but also by the enduring human need for comfort, connection, and hope.
About the Author
I was born and raised in Kingston Ontario where I found my love for writing stories when I was in High School. I never thought my stories were any good until my mom read one of them and said she liked it. Then I shared a story with an acquaintance and she said she liked it so I decided why not see where writing can take me.
