Mirror, Mirror I looked into the mirror and The mirror said to me, “When will you become The one you want to be? What is it that stops you And why does it control The fire that lives inside you Like shackles on your soul? Where do all your hopes and dreams Find shelter in the storm Do you keep them locked inside Far deep, safe and warm? Your journey, is it too hard Or too far out of the way Or is it going to take too long To get where you can’t stay?” I turned my back to the mirror And the mirror spoke again Saying I must make a change To my where, my why, my when. “You must nullify the misery Break free the ball and chain Destroy the doubt that leads you Dream on a higher plain Tear down the walls around you That protect the child that grieves You’ll be taken care of If only you believe.”

About the Book
Portrait of the Wind is Robyn Schon’s first collection of poems. Each tackles the subjects of heartbreak, discovery, and life’s simple joys. The poems are influenced by Schon’s life experiences, as well as her own observations. The journey from losing oneself to finding self-love and respect is often a rocky road that few dare to take. Love and life are everything, yet defining or capturing them is often as difficult as painting a portrait of the wind. In this discerning debut, Schon has bravely exhibited the raw emotions that follow putting one’s heart on display. These poems are complemented by her paintings, both in watercolors and acrylics, which are part of her collection titled “Beyond the Canvas.”
About the Author
Robyn Schon was born in Eden, North Carolina. She earned her graduate degree from Hollins University and has had a long career in marketing and managing entertainment and sports venues in Detroit, Atlanta, and Roanoke (VA). She has written articles and columns for national, regional, and local publications, as well as penned a novella and screenplay. This is her first published collection of poems and paintings. Robyn Schon lives in Roanoke, Virginia with her menagerie of pets.
