About the Book

What I have written is neither an attempt at my autobiography or to chronicle my family history. I have documented my learnings over the last years in the hopes that others might learn from my experiences. Someday I may complete my research and document my ancestry. A brief snapshot of what I know at this writing follows. Since this is still a work in progress errors below are possible. The Atwood family had a law practice in the United Kingdom included the required residence at Gray’s Inn. They migrated to Massachusetts with the appointed Governor and after some time as his legal assistant moved to what is now the northwestern part of New York State. They were Grand Masons and did fight in the Revolutionary War and my grandmother was a member of the Daughters of the American Revolution (DAR). I have located roots in the United Kingdom for the Ladd family where they served the King having been authorized to build a defensive castle. They also migrated to North America and fought in the Revolutionary War and Civil War. I lack documentation on the Ladd family migration and their settlement in the northwestern part of New York State. The VanAlstyne’s, my mother’s paternal family, also migrated pre-Revolutionary War and fought in the war. They have a widespread history across New York and Canada including a marriage to an Iroquois Princess. My cousin is working on documentation to become a member of the DAR. The Thompson’s are my mother’s maternal family which I at this writing I lack any data on.
