About the Book

Stories, examples, parables, metaphors, and humor support the sixty-three reflections on biblical texts from the Revised Common Lectionary. The author uses a "theme approach," addressing issues and questions sometimes overlooked in preaching, balancing private, personal spirituality with the social and corporate. Open-minded and ecumenical in tone, ULU reflects the theology of one firmly planted in the Wesleyan tradition, where scripture, tradition, experience, and reason insist upon openness to the new things that God is doing, and where believers seek to work actively for the transformation of creation according to the values and the vision of the realm of God. Twenty original monochrome photos by the author are distributed between chapters.

About the Author

Dave Williams was for over thirty years a United Methodist missionary primarily working with rural communities and their leaders, and as an advocate for just, sustainable development. His assignments as an ecumenical rural consultant have taken him to over forty countries. In the 1980’s he assisted Pacific Island leaders in addressing critical cultural, economic and health issues, including those related to nuclear testing. He co-edited: Liklik Buk, a Rural Development Handbook still widely used in the Pacific Islands, and co-authored A Call to New Exodus, concerning nuclear issues; Rice in the Storm, an ecumencial resource book on the Philippines, and authored Sun, Silhouettes and Shadows, a photo essay on rural people and places in the Philippines.
