About the Author

“Told you a pack of lies,” an old New Hampshire farmer once said to the poet Donald Hall. That was alright with Hall, because stories tell a different kind of truth from factual truth. These Iowa stories are true, even when they aren’t. After spending his early life rooted to a small piece of farm land, Jim Persoon fled to Virginia, California, Arizona, Kansas, Italy, Holland, Germany, Poland, France and England. He now lives in a resort town on Lake Michigan far away from any cornfields. He returns to Iowa in these poems.
