About the Book

Scott Chase is a young, unemployed ad writer with an over-the-top fondness for drugs and alcohol. His ex-lover Philip is schizophrenic; his current lover Patricia wants Scott and all his problems out of her life. After Scott is arrested for drunk and disorderly, he spends part of a year in a treatment facility. He’s released to live with his mother and undergo psychiatric counseling. Not only must he face his addiction problems; he must confront his deep loneliness. He comes to realize the central role Patricia plays in his life despite his longing for men. When Patricia becomes pregnant with their child, Scott has to choose between marriage and continued limbo. This is not an easy choice.

He marries Patricia, and the final part of the book offer a glimpse of their life together. A crisis occurs which tears at the heart of their marriage. Scott has to ask himself questions that have lingered at the edge of this story. What does it mean to be gay, to be straight? Are these important designations or just convenient pigeonholes? Hot Scott is not an indictment of closeted behavior, nor does it preach heterosexuality. It simply examines how a gay married man might cope with the choice he has made.
