About the Book

YOUNG VIKINGS follows the adventures of two teenage Vikings as they grow up into adulthood. They learn to make weapons for hunting and fighting and in the process learn how to smelt iron from myrjerne (bogiron). They participate in a viking jaunt to Britain in their first marauding adventure, then migrate with their families to Iceland where they establish a colony. Here they marry and subsequently join a noted Viking, Leif Erikson, in his discovery and exploration of North America around 1000 A.D.

About the Author

Birger Johnson is a former university professor. While active in that role, he had research articles published in numerous academic journals. In his retirement, he has switched to freelance and novel writing. YOUNG VIKINGS is his first novel; two others subsequently followed. In his writing, he draws heavily from personal experiences as a life long sportsman. He has been an athlete, a teacher, an athletic coach of several different sports, a mountain hiker and fisherman, a downhill skier and ski patroller, a sailor and a scuba diver. If not writing, in his spare time he enjoys watercolor and pastel painting. He lives with his wife, Joyce, in Fresno, California.
