About the Book

This story chronicles the lives of the Chavet family, living on the bayous on Southern Louisiana during a time when the world and even nature could turn out to be a bitter enemy. Survival went on as it had for centuries by the sheer determination of the hardy people who called Cajun Country their home.

Sound is a sense we learn to live with and our mind is capable of conjuring up silence by shutting out activities around us, but no silence is as dreadful as when one is alone hearing nothing at all.

The Chavet family´s second child, Marcy, was born without the ability to hear or speak. Her world consisted of only the things she could see, smell, taste, touch and feel. Though the Bayou people considered her to be touched in the head, feelings way beyond what she could express burned deep inside her.

Beyond the veil of silence that shrouded their lives the Chavet´s fought local ignorance and the harsh environment to piece together an existence. The depression and a war played a major part in shaping the future of Cajun Country and the destiny of the Chavet family.

Theirs was a struggle to reach beyond silence to find happiness.
