About the Book

Mother Pelican wanted a baby and was delighted to find an egg under a park bench the morning after Easter. She took it to Pelican Island to hatch. But to her amazement, the egg hatched a purple pelican. At first, she hid him but realized that life must go on and took him to the lake to learn how to swim and catch fish. The water washed Percy’s dye away and he turned the proper pelican color. They settled down to live a good life.

About the Author

Doris Clanton lives in Clearwater with her cat, Buddy. She was a teacher for thirty years and would write stories or tell them to her kindergarten thru third grade students. Their favorites were the animal stories and Percy is one of them. Ms. Clanton decided to write down the stories after she retired. She graduated with a masters in Reading from Hofsta University in New York and likes to get children listening to stories and reading on their own as soon as they are ready. As she took up art after retiring, she grew the illustrations for the book. She also has a series of folk type Caribbean prints after her visit to the Bahamas.
