About the Book

THE WANDERING MONKS OF CANTERBURY is a fast paced action mystery. Roger Tabard, veteran film hero, has played rogues and spies, popes and pirates. But time catches up to us all and Roger retires to his farm in Kent near Canterbury. Here he plans to rest and make a film version of the Canterbury Tales. Instead he vanishes.

After diving into a pond on his farm and striking his head, he awakens in Chaucer’s England! Luckily Roger is familiar with Middle English so he can understand what is being said, but that doesn’t help him understand what happened. He is taken in by an order of monks who believe that he is a traveling priest who was robbed. He quickly finds that the martial arts skills he has learned for his films are really needed in the wild world in which he finds himself. After rescuing a lone traveler from thieves and sharing his monk’s cell with him, Roger discovers he has met Geoffrey Chaucer. Chaucer finds him so intriguing he uses Roger as the model for the wayward monk in the Monk’s Tale.

Roger’s fighting skills do not go unnoticed and the Archbishop of Canterbury asks him to protect a young widow who is returning from France with a large amount of gold that she has fashioned into a crucifix. Shortly after finding her, a band of thieves and cutthroats led by an evil monk attacks them. The brigands make repeated attempts to rob them, but Roger always manages to thwart their plans. Thus Roger makes a dangerous enemy of Brother Luther who seeks revenge down through the centuries. But he also finds an abiding love that also survives the ages.
