About the Book

As hackneyed as it may sound, living life to the fullest has always been the constant reminder from those who earlier came, saw, and conquered life. In this Information Age, communicating with each other may be as easy as navigating one's Blackberry. However, an invisible communication gap seems to grow wide as ever among family and friends. Humans were created not to merely exist and Dr J's Year teaches its readers that there's a huge difference between existing and living. From spending more time with people that matter the most to making a contribution to a cause for AIDS-afflicted children of the Third World, war veteran turned philosophy professor Dr. J knows exactly that the point of living is to simply share the love around and make other people happy. Inspiring and heartwarming, Dr. J's Year reminds both the young and old that a life well-lived is what matters the most at the end of the day.

About the Author

Two authors, Jerry Hammet and Harold Guerry, have collaborated on this story. Hammett, a retired minister, military chaplain and student of humanity, created the characters and events. Guerry, a retire South Carolina Air Guard Colonel, who is also retired from the textile industry in the field of Human Resources. He is a genealogist and a historian. At Hammet’s request, Guerry took the notes outlining the characters and events and developed those notes into the cohesive and readable story of human frailties and strengths found in this book. The military service of these two men has led to a friendship that has spanned most of their adult lives. Both men are native South Carolinians and live with their wives along the shores of the South Carolina Lowcountry in Beaufort County.
