About the Book
Book Summary: Raised in the mystic mountains of North Georgia, Larry R. Pirkle credits his faith in God and love of family to his mother and to his maternal grandparents. As part of the sixth generation in his family to reside in the beautiful Etowah River district of Dawson County, Larry grew up learning from the masters that hard work and determination can help you succeed at any task the good Lord sets before you. Larry´s love for "o´l time" stories led him to pen several short stories which caught the eye of the editor of national magazines. His book contains a collection of fifteen such stories where he writes in the introductory page, "Writing for me, has always been a way to help preserve some of the “ordinary days” in my life, days that would be a shame to just forget." In the book, Larry covers these "ordinary days" in living detail starting with a story about his granddaddy´s simple prayer in "Something in the way He said the Blessing" to the summer day he and his cousins helped his grandmother paint her porch furniture "The Old Shade of Green", to a one of a kind story poem entitled "Gray Hair-a-whitening", an interview between a teenager and an simple but wise southern gentleman. Stories on lessons he has learned which have an ageless appeal. Larry is also know as an outstanding artist and has illustrated several pictures in the book.
