Everyone was quiet. Reese, Bonnie, and Damian were imagining how it would feel to be that close to a real haunted house. They were also more impressed than ever with Mary. They thought that she must be awfully brave to want to go inside and look around after everything Miss Emma had told them. Mary was deep in thought, remembering how exhilarating that night had been, to be so bold and daring. She had been afraid but still willing to go inside, but not alone. Suddenly, they all looked at each other as if they had all gotten the same idea at the same time. “Is anyone thinking what I’m thinking?” asked Damian. “I think we’re all thinking the same thing,” said Reese. He looked up at his sister with excitement in his eyes. Mary looked skeptically at Reese and his friends. “How about it, Mary?” “Now wait a minute, Reese. Are you suggesting that the four of us go to Miles Mansion Halloween night?” asked Mary. Bonnie gasped just at the suggestion. “Yes! Why not? You said yourself that you were disappointed about not going inside when you went with your friends. Wouldn’t you like another chance?” asked Reese. “But you’re all so young. It’s really very scary up there. What if something happens? I’d be responsible. I don’t know if this is a good idea ...

About the Book
It is autumn in the little town of Hollow Hill, Vermont, and it is the week before Halloween. For Reese, a nine-year-old boy about to turn ten, this particular Halloween is more exciting than ever before! October 31 is his birthday! Now he will be old enough to go trick-or-treating with his best friends, Bonnie and Damian. As if all this wasn’t exciting enough, Reese’s big sister, Mary, has promised to take Reese and his friends to Miles Mansion on Halloween night! No one goes near the legendary mansion, not since the unusual family that lived there and a local boy mysteriously disappeared from there on Halloween night many years ago! Come join Reese and the others as they explore the dark towering mansion that sits on the edge of town . . . if you dare!
About the Author
Laura has been an aspiring writer since age 12 when she won her first writing contest. She has written poetry, essays and short stories, and is currently working on a science fiction novel. She is also an illustrator (watercolors and inks) and creates 3D artwork out of various found materials. Her inspiration for Miles Mansion was her niece, Bonnie, and her 3 nephews, Reese, Damian and Joey. She hopes children in the same age range as those in her book will enjoy sharing the adventure of Miles Mansion with Reese and his best friends.
