Matthew was a new one who had waited a long, long time to be born. It always seemed that when it was his turn to be born that he was overlooked. But he tried to be patient, because he knew that when he was to be born he would be very special. Matthew and his friend Adam would busy themselves by roaming through the clouds and making them angry so that they would grumble and flash their lightening eyes at them. But what they liked most was listening to St. Peter talk of all the people he had met and how wonderful it was on Earth. On the day that they were to announce who would be the new ones to be born, everyone rushed to the Great Hall. When the Archangel appeared , all were hushed. Matthew waited patiently as the names were read; “ Ashley, Denzyl, Evan, Hailey, Jayden, Liam” and so on and so on until they reached the ‘M’s. “Marc, Mary, Marie, Matthew, Na Na, Ronald, Walker”. When Matthew finally realizes that his name has been called he and Adam fly off in joy. They zoom down the streets of heaven, around the pearly gates and soar like rockets through the clouds. After Matthew learns that he is to be stricken from the list of New Ones to be born to make way for the birth of God’s son Jesus he leaves Heaven and sets off on a scary adventure.

About the Book
The story is about a little angel Matthew waiting for his turn to be born. He has waited a long, long time to be born, and when his turn finally comes, he is heartbroken when he is removed from the list to make way for the birth of God’s Son, Jesus. Heartbroken and angry, he leaves heaven and flies off into infinity to be on his own. Matthew is shocked to find out that a fallen angel also has his own place within infinity. The fallen angel tries to tempt Matthew to leave heaven and be with him, but when Matthew’s best friend, Adam, finds out that he is missing, he enlists the help of the archangel and the multitudes of heaven to rescue him. When the archangel, Adam, and St. Peter arrive at the fallen angel’s palace, a terrible battle ensues until God intercedes. Having angered God for the last time, the fallen angel and his minions are sent into the caverns of the underworld. God then tells Matthew that he has kept him in heaven to help announce the coming of his son to the world. God gives Matthew a golden vase containing a magical star that will help guide the shepherds and wise men to the birthplace of Jesus. Matthew flies to the middle of infinity and releases the beautiful star, and it fills the night sky, pointing the way to Bethlehem.
About the Author
The story is where it all begins. With the birth of my first grandchild, Matthew, and the need to give him something special was born the story Matthew and the Magical Star. I realized that it had been some time since anyone had written a new Christmas story. I had never written a story, short or otherwise, but there seemed to be something that needed to be said to the children about the important things of Christmas. Having been born and raised in a small Midwestern town, I had a kind of innocence about the world and the future. I moved to New England in 1968, compliments of the US Navy, and fell in love with its charm, amenities, and friendly people. I am now proud to be called a New Englander. I was lucky enough to raise three fantastic children here and watch them start families of their own. I’m having a great time watching my grandchildren grow, and this story will give them something to enjoy for the rest of their lives.
