The Little Rainbow Dragon

. . . . . . New baby dragons were always born in the Spring. That is, except for one little dragon that was born during a summer storm, when lightning lit up the sky which turned from light blue to dark blue, indigo then purple. He wasn't green like the other dragons wearing their summer colors, neither was he wearing the dragons' autumn colors. He was all of those colors plus the colors in the sky during the storm. His mother thought he was the most beautiful dragon in the whole world. His father was sure he would also be a very clever dragon. They were proud of their new baby, but knew that other dragons would tease their special little dragon because . . . . . he was different. The colorful dragon watched all the bigger dragons playing dragon games, breathing in the hot flames from the volcano then breathing the fire back out of their mouths across the waves when they landed on the beach. Sometimes the colors stayed in the sky turning the white and gray clouds red, orange and pink until the sun went down. 'Why am I different from the other dragons?' the little dragon asked his mother. 'Because you are special!' she replied. 'And you are our very own clever little dragon. You can do anything when you try.' As the little dragon grew, his colors never changed, even with the change of seasons. His scales remained red, orange, yellow, green, blue, indigo and purple. He became very shy and hardly ever went out to play with the other dragons because they teased him. He longed to be able to fly above the volcano and breathe fire like all the other dragons, but they laughed at him - so he didn't. One day a big dragon who was a bit of a bully . . . . . . .
