About the Book

Open Mic: An Insight to My Mind is a poetry collection that speaks not from the mind but from the heart and soul. It speaks of the sweet memories we recall from our childhood, the beautiful thoughts that bloom within our minds, the emotional pills that are hard to swallow, and the hope that in spite of everything going wrong, everything will turn out okay. In some aspects, readers may find themselves reading upon the words they don’t want to hear but perhaps need to hear, which trigger foreign feelings—words they wish they had heard back in the past. Throughout its composition, Open Mic has delivered on giving me an insight to my mind, and my biggest hope is that even just one sentence gives you an insight into yours.

Jazmin Hernandez is currently a 16 year old and a junior in high school. Her hobbies include writing, reading, spending time with friends, practicing self care, and helping to better the environment. During the past 4 years of her life, Hernandez has battled various forms of mental health including depression and anxiety. However she has made writing the outlet in which she escapes from reality and inhabits her own imaginary world for however long she wishes. Open Mic: An Insight to my Mind is her first poetry collection to be published, and she hopes for it to not be her last. Her primary objective to accomplish within her writing is that every reader finds a piece of themselves within it, and that regardless of personality, sexual orientation, beliefs, etc., everyone feels like they belong.
