About the Book
Bala’s Story is third volume in a set published by Xlibris under the generic title of Words of Passage. The period covered starts with her father-in-law’s story, Words of Passage: The Original, and then there is her husband’s memoir, Words of Passage: A Journalist Looks Back. Bala’s Story touches on her Hindu values, and then features the struggles she had in a Western country with a small Indian population, and how she transformed life there with the talent of her cooking, the charm of her language and the determination that gave her a place in broadcasting history.
About the Author
She was born Bhadrabala Barot, and is now Bala Thomson. As one of eight children of strict Hindu parents, she might have expected a calm orthodox life, but her parents were also liberal thinkers. They educated their children to question any of the values by which they were guided into life’s challenges. Bala’s Story tells of one Indian girl’s journey from a quiet East African country into a western world that was moving fast from its own traditions, no more so than the fusion of east and west as two young people in love find their place in the new multi-racial, multi-cultural world they were helping to create.
