Inner Calling

About the Book

Inner Calling was written and inspired by the idea of having a conversation with our Inner Spirit. It was started in the summer of 2009 when I had three months off before starting work as a doctor. I had taken some time off after arduous medical training and was lucky enough to house sit for friends of the family who had taken a trip to Europe for six weeks. Their house overlooked the water in an isolated region of Auckland and it was perfect inspiration for painting and writing. The first ten poems of Inner Calling were written during this break. However it would be two years later before the book would be completed. I travelled to a place 2 and a half hours north of the city, into rural New Zealand, to work at a local hospital and moved to a house with a magic backdrop, of rolling hills and the open sea. Its not hard, to not be inspired by this place. The poems reflect the intimate relationship between ourselves and our Inner Spirit, which is a spark of the Greater Spirit. There are 30 in total and some are joyous and heartwarming, others reflecting trials and tribulations of the heart and how through all of this our Inner Spirit has remained with us unceasingly. It hopes to inspire and to provide a sense of warmth, comfort and solace for others, in this ever changing world and to help mankind move towards the Light as One.

About the Author

Maria lives in New Zealand and her ancestors are of Cook Island, Irish, Scottish and British decent. She was born and raised in South Auckland and travelled to Australia in 1994 after University. While working in restaurants, hotels, bars, studying politics and philosophy over many years, it was in Melbourne, Australia where she came across a meditation called Vibrant Celestial Meditation that would change her life forever. This helped mould a path that would latter lead her to become a doctor at a local hospital in Whangarei. Inner Calling symbolises the journey and the movement towards a new chapter in her life. It reflects a reconnection with the Inner Spirit and its unwavering love to protect and guide us all each day.
