Maude watched helplessly as the halpless dough she’d buried the day before, spewed out the every crevice, its sticky finger majestically enveloping everything in its path. Shiny little air bubbles formed then burst proudly in the midday sun. The wood heap had turned into the perfect oven! Maude was speechless, embarrassed, betrayed and angry all at the same time. What could she say? She felt the heat rising in her cheeks, and it had nothing to do with the heat of the day!

About the Author

My name is Sheryl Grant and I am a wife, mother and grandmother. I live in the hunter valley of NSW where the best wine in Australia is grown. Gardening is one of my greatest loves. I spend nearly every daylight hour out in it. I have other hobbies as well that I try to find time for, but writing is always on my mind, even in the garden. Many ideas are born there. I love writing short stories, but I shy away from heavy novels. I love watching kids faces light up when they are either listening, or reading a good story. That’s what inspires me to keep writing. The first book that I had published was about my grandmother, who was quite a character. She told me stories about her family as they were growing up [including my father], so that’s when I decided to have a go at writing short stories. I completed a writer’s course and I was on my way. I found it surprisingly easy to write for kids because they don’t care about reality and facts like adults do. Your imagination can run wild and create any world you like for kids and they love it. I do hope you enjoy my books and continue bringing a little sunshine into a child’s life with them.
