About the Author

ABOUT THE AUTHOR The author is a nurse practitioner who initially began researching her familyÊs health history as a project to learn more about the conditions and diseases that were prevalent in her family. By knowing the diseases and conditions that were present in her family, Ms. Mason thought that she would be better able to communicate health risks with the purpose of disease prevention. Little did she know that over twenty years later, this project would turn into something much more. Not only did she become the family historian, but also functions as one their main genealogical researchers and also provides guidance in family reunion planning. Ms. Mason has held membership in the African American Genealogy Group of Philadelphia and has attended The Family Reunion Conferences sponsored by Temple UniversityÊs Family Reunion Institute, under the direction of Dr. Ione Vargus.
