About the Book

Shyrryk, a skilled warrior from the brutal race of the Shurahauk, decides to participate in an exchange program between his people and that of the Alliance of Human Starborn Nations. Given the rank of 2nd-grade Lieutenant, he is assigned to ASF-197, the Cougars, under the command of famed Captain Andrew Kiver, known to some as only “The Killer.” The mission of the Cougars is relatively simple, escort a group of war heroes to a conference. But their destination is not as simple as it would appear… During a great war between the Alliance and Shyrryk’s ancestors, Outpost 71 was a forward base of high importance. But the Alliance made a fatal mistake, Outpost 71 was located on a planet whose orbit became too unstable, and due to a gravimetric disturbance was hurled out into space. Tragically the Outpost was abandoned when the rescue ship was needed on the front lines, and the planet drifted away into the recesses of space, the lives of the occupants drifting out of the memories of those involved. But miraculously, one day Outpost 71 begins to transmit a distress signal, after centuries of silence. So the war heroes are gathered to meet the heroes that have survived the time on this now desolate and frozen planet in a grand display hoped to boost Alliance morale amongst the outlying colonies. But as they approach, Shyrryk will learn that perhaps the Outpost is not as friendly as it would appear, and perhaps there are plans other than those disclosed in public, plans not only for the heroes he protects, but for the whole of the Alliance. In the end Shyrryk will be forced to decide between two factions of the human people, and will not only have to come to grip with the value of human loyalty, but with becoming a hero himself.

Robert Thurston is currently a nuclear electronics technician enlisted in the United States Navy and stationed aboard the USS Enterprise. A Massachusetts native, he currently resides in Newport News, Virginia with his loving wife Kira and their mischievous cat Demon.
