About the Book

Emanuel A. Korchnoy was born on March 31, 1915, in Rochester, New York. He later moved to New York City and graduated from CCNY with a BS in education. I became a Madison Avenue ad man whose agency served dozens of clients and industries for fifty years. I got advertising and promotion in my blood at two Washington department stores before moving back to New York to promote Esquire Inc. over nine years. I published GQ when it was Apparel Arts and published Bridegroom magazine for Esquire. I can’t help uttering a wow when I contemplate all the wondrous businesses I’ve been a part of. The most wondrous was in the 1970s and 1980s when my agency was part of the growth of both Pepsi-Cola and Coca-Cola’s entry into the wine and spirits business. I was Frank’s ad man for a good part of the fifty years we have been friends. In that time, we built three brands from the unknown into “the largest selling imports in the United States.” These are Yago Sant’Gria from Spain, Stolichnaya from Russia, and Concha y Toro from Chile. For the last thirty-plus years, I’ve been living on Longboat Key, a twelve-mile island in the Gulf of Mexico, painting, writing, and golfing when able—trying to live the good life after losing my wondrous wife of sixty-seven years. During that time, I founded the Sarasota Florida chapter of the Chevaliers du Tastevin, and the Italian wine equivalent—the Ordine Res Cavaliere Dei Vini Nobile.
