About the Book

About the Author

Born in a remote village in Northeastern Thailand, Dhiravamsa grew up in a simple, primitive world, helping his parents grow rice and raise vegetables. At thirteen he joined the Buddhist Monastic Order and spent the next twenty-three years becoming a well-educated and well-trained monk. He established the first Buddhist Sunday School for Thai children and young people in Thailand and was instrumental in raising the standard of education in his country. In 1964 he accompanied his Principal Vipassana Master (the late Most Venerable Phra Dhammadhiraraj Mahamuni of Wat Mahadhatu, Bangkok) to England and began his spiritual work as a Vipassana Meditation teacher, gradually achieving an international reputation. He attained the position of Preceptor (Upajhaya), Abbott of a Thai Temple (Wat Buddhapadipa) in London and was appointed Chief of the Thai Buddhist Mission in the West. At thirty-two, he attained the rank of Chao Khun with the Royal Name of Phra Sobhana Dhammasudhi, a highly respected position in the Thai monastic system. In October 1971 Dhiravamsa gave up his robes to lead a simple, meditative life, continuing his teaching of Vipassana Meditation and incorporating non-traditional approaches such as Vipassana Dream Work, Active Imagination, and Holistic Healing. He currently lectures and leads workshops extensively throughout the world and has published several books on the subject of Vipassana and self-growth, including: Turning to the Source, The Middle Path of Life and A New Approach to Buddhism.
