About the Book

This book is a memoir of the several years it took to heal from a brain tumor operation. It was compiled from notes she made during this period, and highlights that she found helped or hindered the healing process. She wrote it primarily so that her family and her many friends would know the details of how she coped with her recovery. Throughout the book are sprinklings of humor, so necessary to healing. Since the art of healing can be very lonely and difficult at times, she would also like this memoir to give hope and guidance to those who need help in healing.

About the Author

Esther Jaffe Kaplinsky was born in New Haven, Connecticut. While still an infant, the family moved to Atlanta, Georgia, her mother’s home town. She attended Atlanta public schools and the University of Georgia. She met her future husband while he was a student in the United States Army Specialized Training Program at Georgia Tech. When he returned from the Pacific area, she married that “Damn Yankee”; and upon his discharge, they moved to New York. After having three children, she resumed her education at the City College of New York, earning B.S. and M.S. degrees. For almost twenty years, Esther taught early childhood classes in Harlem. While working toward the Doctor of Education degree, she was diagnosed as having a brain tumor. After her operation, she found the winters in New York too harsh, so she and her husband moved to Los Angeles, California, where they now live.
